In today's economy, everyone is looking for ways to boost their savings on the purchases they need to make. There are dozens of cashback apps that make hassle-free savings available to you.

Unfortunately, I have not found an app that provides cash back on childcare but a guy can dream.

Four of the most popular apps are Rakuten, Honey, iBotta, and Kudos.

Which App is Right for You?

It depends on your shopping habits.

  • If you do a lot of online shopping, Rakuten is likely the best option.

  • If you're looking for coupons and promo codes, Honey is a good choice.

  • If you're a grocery shopper, iBotta is a good option.

  • And if you have several credit cards and want to maximize rewards, Kudos is a good choice.

Rakuten

Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is the most advertised cashback app and for good reason. It offers cash back on purchases made at over 4,500 online retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. They also have a whole section dedicated to travel discounts that will provide the biggest overall $ savings.

Most retailers provide between 2-4% cash back, but they do offer '2x cash back' periodically. For example, Carter's is currently giving 6% cash back if you need to buy more clothes for your kiddos.

To use Rakuten, simply create an account and shop through the Rakuten website or app. I use their Chrome extension which makes activating cashback deals hassle-free.

When you make a purchase, Rakuten will track your order and deposit the cash back into your account. You can then redeem your cash back for gift cards or PayPal cash.

iBotta

iBotta is a cashback app that focuses on grocery shopping. It offers cash back on products from over 1,500 grocery stores, including Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Safeway.

To use iBotta, simply create an account and add the products you want to buy to your "list." When you're at the store, scan the barcodes of the products on your list. iBotta will then track your purchase and deposit the cash back into your account.

IBotta is a lot more time-intensive than Rakuten or Honey, but it dominates the food and grocery store markets and the other apps are not competitive in that space.

Honey

Honey (now owned by PayPal) is another popular cashback app. It works by automatically applying coupons and promo codes to your online purchases. You can also earn cashback by shopping through the Honey website, but they do not have as wide of a selection as Rakuten.

Similar to Rakuten, Honey also offers a browser extension that you can install to make it even easier to find and apply coupons. You can also add items to your 'droplist' and get email alerts anytime there is a price drop on that item.

To use Honey, simply create an account and install the browser extension. When you're shopping online, Honey will scan the web for coupons and promo codes that apply to your purchase. If it finds any, it will automatically apply them to your cart.

Kudos

Kudos is a relatively new type of cashback app that boosts your credit card rewards when you shop at over 12,000 participating merchants. The Gold Boost earns 2x the rewards and the Bronze Boost earns .25x the rewards. The app also recommends which credit card to use to maximize the points and benefits you receive!

To use Kudos, simply create an account and link your credit or debit card. When you make a purchase at a participating retailer, Kudos will track your order and deposit the cash back into your account. At this time, the cashback can only be redeemed for an Amazon gift card.

Kudos is great if you have several credit cards that give you bonus rewards for specific spending categories, like the Chase Sapphire card.

Hassle-Free Saving Awaits!

No matter which app you choose, you can save money on your everyday purchases easily! So, what are you waiting for? Start using a cashback app today and start saving money!

Here are a few closing tips for using cashback and coupon apps:

  • Make sure you activate the cashback offer BEFORE making a purchase. Not all cashback offers are automatically activated.

  • Pair the cashback app with other coupons and promo codes to stack offers and save even more money!

By following these tips, you can maximize your savings when you use cashback and coupon apps.
